What are the types of Programs I can create?

The Programs page can be used to create and manage achievement programs, competitions, and campaigns.

The Programs page is a one-stop shop for creating real-time experiences for your participants to drive engagement in the platform.

Here is some information about each of the program options:

Achievement Program

An achievement program is used to set up a collection of achievements to earn. Many Motivation Alliance-created achievement types are available that get earned automatically when users complete an action in the software. Below are some examples of Motivation Alliance-created achievements:

You can update the value required to complete each achievement when adding it to the achievement program. For example, you can change the Steps Earned achievement from above to require 200,000 steps to complete.

You are also able to create Staff-Defined achievements that are specific to your organization, though these need to be awarded manually either by a member self-claiming the achievement or by staff members awarding it on behalf of the user.

Campaign

A Campaign is a list of tasks to complete across the software. Unlike Achievement Programs, Campaigns can be designed to be completed in a specific sequence. Some examples of tasks that can be used with Campaigns are completing a Wellness Plan, completing an Achievement Program, and registering for/participating in a competition.

Below is an example of an active Campaign:

Competition

A Competition is an activity-based program where users compete against each other. Users log their steps, workouts, or weight records to track metrics like total steps, total exercise minutes, or total weight lost over the duration of the competition.

Below is an example of what users see on their Home page when enrolled in an active Steps Competition:

Users can manually log data, or connect to a health app and sync their data to Motivation Alliance. When registering for a competition, a link to the Connections page is available so users can connect to an app for the competition.

Leaderboard Challenge

A Leaderboard Challenge is a non-competitive program where users log data to appear in different tiers during the program duration. Tiers are named and the requirements are defined by staff members. As users progress through the program, they can see which other users have reached the tiers they are working on.

Population Goal Challenge

A Population Goal Challenge is a goal that is displayed to all members of a defined population, and all members contribute data to reach the goal. The goal is displayed as a thermometer on members' Home pages. The goal does not reflect who has contributed or how much data each member contributes.

Below is an example of a Distance population goal:

Team Competition

A Team Competition functions similarly to a Competition, except users create or join teams and compete against other teams.

The data is averaged for all users on the team, rather than adding all of the points together. For example, if there are three members on a team and only one member is logging data, the team's standings will reflect whatever the active member's data is divided by 3.

Below is an example of standings for a Steps Team Challenge:
